Emotion Recognition Test

A face appears and you choose the emotion it shows: happy, sad, angry, surprised, fearful or disgusted. Eighteen faces are drawn at random, each emotion appearing three times. See your recognition accuracy, average reaction time and the expression you most often misread.

About the Emotion Recognition Test

Recognising facial expressions is a basic social skill, and most people are far better with some emotions than others. This test uses stylised faces built from simple shapes — eyebrows, eyes and mouth — so it measures how you read the core signals of each expression rather than any single photograph.

The six basic emotions here are happy, sad, angry, surprised, fearful and disgusted. Each appears three times in random order. Answer from the buttons below the face; your reaction time is recorded for each face. At the end you will see which emotion you confused the most, along with your accuracy and average speed.
