Hearing Test

Play a steady tone, then mark whether you can hear it. The test climbs from 1 kHz towards 20 kHz and reports the highest frequency you could detect, with a rough age reference. It is not a medical hearing test.

Use headphones and sit somewhere quiet. Lower your volume first — the tones are pure and can be unpleasant if loud.

About the Hearing Test

The test plays a pure sine tone starting at 1 kHz, which almost everyone with healthy hearing can detect. Tap “I can hear it” and the next tone is higher; tap “I can’t hear it” and the test stops at the last tone you confirmed. Your result is the highest frequency you could hear.

High-frequency hearing naturally declines with age. A young adult can often reach 17–20 kHz, while by around forty the ceiling is frequently 14–16 kHz. Headphones, background noise, speaker quality and even the device you use all affect the result, so treat the grade as a rough indication only — not a diagnosis.
