Operation Span Test

A maths problem flashes up, then a letter. Solve the problem, remember the letter, and move on. At the end of each set, type the letters back in the order you saw them. Eight sets measure your working memory capacity and maths accuracy.

About the Operation Span Test

The operation span (OSPAN) task is the classic measure of working memory capacity. Keeping a letter in mind while solving a maths problem forces you to hold and process information at the same time, which is what working memory does all day.

You see one maths problem and one letter for each position in the set. Solve the problem honestly — accuracy below 60% makes the recall score unreliable. Your result is the number of sets recalled perfectly in order.
